The “Museum Shop” is born, the e-commerce of the Jewish Museum of Rome. 55 items made by the best Italian craftsmen, in materials ranging from silver to Murano glass and ceramics. Particular design objects that do not sacrifice the beauty of the classic.
An idea that arose from the need to deliver the beauties of the collection displayed at the Museo Ebraico di Roma to the homes of visitors from all over the world. But also a way of making the shop accessible to the outside, all just a click away.
The objects that can be purchased from the Museum Shop are nothing more than the reflection of a collection full of wonders. The pinnacle available from the Shop is certainly a special collection created by JAR – Joel Arthur Rosenthal – an American craftsman jeweller, who has created for the Museo Ebraico di Roma pieces unique in the world, such as hand-painted earrings, embellished with precious materials and mezuzahs decorated with brilliant floral motifs, which are freely inspired by one of the most beautiful and original objects in the Museo: the Menorah by JAR, donated to the Museo in 2017, following the exhibition “La Menorà. Culto, storia e mito”, put on by the Museo in conjunction with the Braccio di Carlo Magno of the Vatican Museums.
“We are honoured to have the exclusive franchise for Italy of articles with a unique and precious design, made by an artist such as Jar – explains Grazia Romina Sonnino, director of the Museo Ebraico shop – this idea, which has been in the air for quite some time, came into being because of the pandemic. As a result of the various closures, we had time available, to enable this dream to become reality.”
Among the glass objects, there are some for ceremonial use such as glasses for Kiddush (the sanctification of wine), and jewellery items. Within the site there will also be a special section devoted to temporary exhibitions, where users can find and purchase catalogues and academic publications.
An ambitious project born out of the effort of many professionals: “The site was created by a very competent team. Mario Vitta took care of building it with me, Patrick Chaloum translated the windows of our e-commerce. The beautiful images are the work of Giorgio Benni”, Sonnino explains.
Not only that, buying at the Museum Shop is also a way, already adopted by many other Jewish museums, of helping and supporting the local community, trying to make a contribution from a distance and at the same time enjoying the charm of the objects on sale. “It often happened that tourists came here and asked us how they might buy objects directly from their home, today it is possible and we are proud of it” concludes Grazia Romina Sonnino.
